Using IGI Batch Numbers on the LDS Website.
1. Go to the LDS website: http://www.familysearch.org/
2. Click on "search"
3. Click on International Genealogical Index (in left column)
4. Enter the Surname you wish to search for.
5. Scroll down to the "region" selection tab. Pull down tab and scroll to the country area required. e.g. British Isles.
6. Enter the batch number provided for your parish in the "batch number" space.
    (NOTE: the codes begin with a CAPITAL letter, then a NUMBER "zero" (not the letter "O")
7. Click "search". This should return a list of all records for that surname from that particular extraction of that parish, enabling you to identify members of the same family...primarily in christening extractions.

To find family groupings, follow the above instructions, but as well as entering the Surname, also add the father and mother's given names.

It is now possible to get a list of all the names extracted for a particular Batch Number.
1. Go to LDS website: http://www.familysearch.org/
2. Click on "Search"
3. Click on International Genealogical Index (in left column)
    Do not enter any given names or surnames. 
4. Scroll down to "region" selection tab. Pull down tab and scroll to the country area required. e.g. British Isles.
5. Enter the batch number in the "batch number" space.
6. Click "Search"

NOTE: There are likely to be several batch numbers for each parish. Those in published lists may only be some of the batch numbers available.
If you find a family member in the regular IGI search, check for the batch number on the details of the individual entry. Then, follow the above directions inserting a surname only and the batch number. This may return for you several entries of the same surname from that parish.
C = Christenings   M = Marriages   P = Birth or Christening    A = Marriages

Go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp
Click on  "Place Search"
Enter place in box  ie Stafford
Enter Part of (optional)  Stafford
Click on result  "England, Stafford, Stafford"
Click on "England, Stafford-Stafford-Church records-indexes."
  (There are only batch numbers if there is an entry ...Church records-indexes )
In the case of Stafford several records have been indexed.
I chose "Parish Registers of Christ Church 1869-1871".
Under Notes is the batch number C-3951-1
Translate this to a six figure number C039511.
(If there is only a number, try C, M & P in front of the number)
